Joker

The iconic character of the Joker has been depicted by many, and while they are all brilliant in their own way, Joaquin Phoenix was able to bring a new face to the mad man we all know and love whilst also bringing about the important role of mental health in our society.

The film begins with the audience looking at Arthur who just seems down on his luck. A man who is trying his level best to be a happy clown working for minimum wage while trying to take care of his sick mother who herself is lost in her own world.

Arthur thinks he hit the jackpot when he finds out that his father may be Thomas Wayne (aka bruce wayne's father) and that he could get some kind of kindness from that man. But as it turns out, no one really knows who Arthur's father is and the sheer lack of humanity shown to Arthur turns into the tipping point that morphs this down trodden man into a villain that would kill his own mother.

The film itself is portrayed very well and Phoenix's acting is nothing short of excellent in depicting the misunderstood character of the Joker.

But what I found myself loving from the film was the awareness that it brought to mental illness and how the government system of councillors are just not equipped to handle a person who is on the brink of madness. And there are so few real avenues to gain the help needed in these situations, one hardly feels like Arthur is in the wrong for turning into the Joker in order to cope with the painful realities of his world.
